Deploy Action Is Hiring!
Full-Time Communications and Digital Associate
Remote position within the United States. Employment is available in states where Deploy Action is able to employ staff. Immediate start.
Deploy Action is looking for a Communications and Digital Associate to help accelerate an affordable, reliable clean energy future — and to build the communications engine behind it.
This is a hands-on, get-it-done role for someone who loves to write, pitch, and create. You'll work side-by-side with our communications director and digital director, turning strategy into action across every channel: sharp talking points, compelling media pitches, reporter backgrounders that make journalists' jobs easy, and scroll-stopping content for social, email, and web.
If you're a strong writer with a creative streak — someone who can jump from a punchy Instagram post to a strategic pitch to a persuasive backgrounder in the same afternoon — we want to hear from you. You'll help execute a multichannel communications strategy that puts real wins on the board for clean energy policy.
Responsibilities
Earned Media-Focused
Maintain a media list and editorial calendar spanning earned, owned, and social channels
Write pitches and press releases from pre-approved messaging, coordinating approvals internally and with partners
Pitch reporters and schedule interviews
Monitor media coverage and social mentions of both organizations, and track broader trends relevant to the mission
Help compile metrics reports for internal and external KPIs
Owned Media-Focused
Create and manage day-to-day social content that cuts through the noise
Design graphics, short-form video, and other visual assets for social, email, and web with Canva
Write and build email campaigns, such as advocacy asks, newsletters, and rapid-response updates
Update and publish website content, including blogs, event pages, and press releases
Support rapid-response digital content during breaking news or legislative moments
Track digital metrics (such as engagement, reach, open rates, conversions) to inform strategy
Qualifications
2–3+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, advocacy, political campaigns, climate, energy, public policy, or a related field
Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn technical or policy-heavy material into sharp, accessible, persuasive communications
Experience building and executing communications strategies that support policy, advocacy, legislative, or public affairs goals
Familiarity with media relations — media lists, reporter pitching, and monitoring for hits and trends
Experience across earned, owned, and social tactics, with an understanding of how they work together
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and move projects forward in a fast-paced remote environment
Interest or background in clean energy deployment, electricity affordability, grid planning, distributed energy resources, utilities, state energy policy, or public utility regulation preferred
Commitment to Deploy Action and Deploy Action Labs' mission to accelerate clean energy deployment, improve affordability, strengthen grid reliability, and advance practical state-level policy solutions
Compensation
This is a full-time, at-will W-2 position.
The position is currently funded and anticipated to continue for approximately 12 months. At the conclusion of that period, Deploy may extend or convert the position to an ongoing role based on organizational needs, funding, and performance. Employment remains at will to the extent permitted by applicable law.
The expected salary range for this position is $60,000-74,000 per year. Benefits and other employment terms will be provided in accordance with applicable organizational policies and law.
The associate will primarily work for Deploy Action, but as a part of their full-time responsibilities will also provide communications assistance to Deploy Action Labs, a fiscally sponsored 501(c)(3) organization focused on education, research, policy design, and implementation support.
